This drug war that has been waged on the American people is nothing more than an excuse for the militarization of our police forces and the ability for those police officers to harass the people on a daily basis. Lets face it..gang violence has been a problem for a while, but has become substantially worse since the beginning of the so called ” War on Drugs.” I mean..lets face it…something is legal so people don’t have to fight or sneak or kill to get it, and there isn’t a large underground market for this stuff because it can become available to the public……then you make all of it illegal which grants the oppurtunity for someong to try and make a “quick buck” off of something like that, then there become rivals for market, and other killings, then you have a huge amount of gun violence. The war on drugs is such a waste of money because I could drive 15 minutes and get any kind of drug I felt like, and in just about any quantity…so what has all this money spent on this war done for this country? It has increased our prison population, which furthers the problem because when those convicted of selling a substance get out….they have a much harder time of finding a job, and starting a new….and in almost every case they will be hounded by those same policeman that put them in jail in the first place.
There have now sprung up prisons that actually are there to make a profit, and actually lobby our congress to enforce stricter laws with longer punishments. They use these prisoners for slave wages and then sell the product for a profit. If you do not believe me….look it up because it is 100% fact. So instead of putting money back into social programs for children to keep them busy while they grow up, we now fund police officers so they can pull someone over walking down the street because they have a certain color/tat/bandana..this is absurd..we waste all of this money fighting a battle that is never going to be won…it will be a continuous thing that will do nothing more than put more people behind bars, which leads to more death, and more hatred.
We should be using our funding for something other than kidnapping people and forcing them to work for a business for slave wages, and then put them right back in the same situation they were in when they got arrested to begin with, then we rinse, and repeat. Jeez. this country needs to grow up, and instead of trying to keep drugs away from your children…you need to start keeping your children away from drugs and keep them busy after school with something that they enjoy doing so they don’t get bored and do something they wouldn’t normally do.
And in the mean-time, lets fight for higher wages to keep people out of slums and/or to turn our slums in to decent places to live for the children of our country. I don’t blame poor people…I blame the gap in “class”. Free education…free healthcare…and by free education I mean”free pre-school-elemetary-middle-high school-and college, and graduate college”. Dear god what our country could do if 75% of our population went to college. We could do anything.
