Reuters posted an article today about Kerry flexing his bat-flaps at Putin. You can read the article here if you’d like.
According to Reuters, Russia will incur more costs, at the hands of Kerry and the US, if they don’t stop the pro-Russian protests (and takeover) in Ukraine. This sounds like the threats they made to Russia when Putin asked Crimeans to vote. It seems as if Kerry has forgotten what cards they have to play. Perhaps they’ve been cheating and will produce that Ace of Spades, but as of yet, the US hasn’t been able to hurt Russia in any substantive way.
To me, Russia went about Crimea the right way. The US is backing a dictatorial regime in Western Ukraine. When Ukranians began to revolt, the parliament voted to allow the use of live rounds, and guess what happened? Ukrainians were being shot to death by snipers and by other officers. So, we are willing to back a regime that says it’s okay to kill their own citizens because they’re protesting, but we will NOT back a country that goes in to Crimea to protect its citizens from the government of Ukraine and from the crazy citizens of Ukraine?
Doesn’t that seem a little bit off to you?
If you don’t believe that Ukrainian government is corrupt, then watch this clip:
That’s the government of Ukraine trying to force the CEO of a media company to resign.
So, we’ll back those guys (the ones roughing the CEO up), but not Russia (the ones that called a referendum)?
Now, I don’t really care what you think of Russia. The fact is that the Ukrainian government is corrupt, doesn’t care about its people’s ability to protest, and doesn’t care about its people’s lives. Oh. . . well. . . I guess that fits right in line with our government now doesn’t it?
