According to the Huffington Post, the Ukrainian government has taken back the state buildings that were once occupied by Ukrainian protesters. According to the article, “Interior Minister Arsen Avakov described the measure on his Facebook page as an ‘anti-terrorist operation.’ ”
So now, the citizens protesting are “terrorists.” Does that sound familiar? It should, because that’s exactly what the US government has been, and will call, protesters in this country. It’s clear what the Ukrainian government is doing — taking a play from the US playbook of “terrorism.” Call someone a terrorist and you’ll be able to treat them however you want to, even if they’re just citizens wanting change in their country.
I’m not going to go into great detail about this crisis, but I just wanted to point out the similarities between what the Ukrainian government is doing and what the US is doing, and will do. If you disagree with the government and gather huge protests that scare the government (as it should be afraid of its people), then those protesters will either be shot, tased, gassed, and then arrested. We’ve seen it time and time again with Occupy Wall street and the protests in San Francisco. The government IS afraid of us, but it doesn’t want us to know that so it will use any and all force necessary to get the people to shut up and let the government do what it’s going to do.
The government is supposed to be a representative body of the people, which is why we’re supposed to hold ‘fair’ elections. The problem with that is we only get to vote for the people the government puts on the ballot and we only get to vote for the ones that can beg for enough money from large corporations, or corporate donors. Once they’ve begged so much, they’re already purchased. So yeah. . . we vote, but it doesn’t mean anything because our options are very slim and they are hand-picked for us.
The ONLY way to get a ‘true’ representative government is by letting them know that we won’t fuck around anymore. We don’t like what they’re doing. We don’t like the choices of ‘nominees’ they appoint for us to choose from (as if there is much of a difference between the two candidates to choose from anyway). We don’t like it.
I hate to say it, but peaceful protests will turn into violent ones because the government will incite riotous behavior so that they can say “Oh, look. . . they’re breaking things and setting things on fire. They are [wait for it ] . . . . terrorists.”
That’s right folks. The government won’t let us peacefully protest in large groups anymore. They don’t want us showing our true strength in numbers, because they know there’s no way they can stop it. Our government calls for allowing protesters in other countries to be allowed to revolt and take back their country, but they will NEVER allow that here. Peaceful protesting is a thing of the past, unfortunately. What’s left to do, I’ll leave to your imagination. But I will say, it’s not going to be pretty.
Terrorists are nothing more than freedom-fighters of a certain cause. People typically don’t terrorize others without a reason. Even serial killers have their own twisted reasons. Doesn’t make it right to some, but it will to others.
